Today I didn’t have time for a full session, so I did a couple of little bits instead of the Station mechanic I was intending to.
The headline feature is ad integration. I’ve added a randomly-triggered interstitial ad after the Game Over screen activates; you see the screen for a short time so that you know the game has finished before the ad triggers (rather than it seeming to appear in the middle of gameplay).
Now that I’ve done ad integration, I’m thinking that I’ll do an IAP (in-app purchase) for a “no ads” item. The IAP can wait a bit, but I wanted to try an animated button that would attract attention for it, so I made the Restart button wiggle a bit.
After some play-test feedback, I’ve reduced the starting speed of the train – as the developer I’m obviously quite good at the game now, but for first-timers it’s too fast. I’ll definitely need to make sure there’s a usable length of track lined-up from the starting tile to allow a new player to get their bearings before it kicks off.
